Summary

The post-baccalaureate in nutrition program allows students with non-science backgrounds or students missing a significant number of classes to complete the necessary prerequisites for the Master of Science in Nutrition program. Students are allowed to take only the courses they need through the post-bacc program and are not required to complete the full year-long program if they have completed some of the courses previously. 

Students interested in applying to the post-bacc nutrition program should apply online by selecting the Master of Science in Nutrition Post-Baccalaureate from the graduate degree menu in the online application.

General Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Complete the required prerequisites.
  • Must meet standards of satisfactory progress and minimum standards of admissibility for the degree program for which they wish to matriculate.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status

Admissions into the post-bacc program does not guarantee admissions into the master's program.

Tuition and Financial Aid

NOTE: Admission to any of the master of science in nutrition programs is a separate process and will take place during your year in the post-bacc program. Enrolled post-bacc students will follow the standard master of science in nutrition process, with the exception of the submission of official transcripts. Prerequisites

A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university or a GAP of 2.75 or above and:

General Chemistry with lab* 2 courses (science-major level)
Intro to Biology with lab 1 course
College Algebra or Statistics 1 course (or placement exam)

* Students can take General Chemistry I and II during the summer at Bastyr University prior to the post-bacc year.  The prerequisite to this series is Introduction to Chemistry

 

Curriculum

Students must maintain a B average to remain in good standing in the program. However, the MSN/DPD program is more competitive and students will need to achieve a higher prerequisite GPA.

  • Organic Chemistry with lab
  • Anatomy and Physiology Series 1 - 3
  • Biochemistry 1 - 2
  • Intro to Nutrition (online)
  • Microbiology
  • Developmental Psychology (MSN/MACP and DPD students only)
  • Whole Foods Production (graduate level) While post-bac students may take Whole Foods Production and elective credits towards the master's degree, they may not take any other MSN core curriculum classes.
