Program Overview

Cultivate your passion for nutrition and wellness into a meaningful career! With a Master of Science in Nutrition for Wellness and Health Coaching (MSNW), you’ll have the tools you need to become a health coach or certified nutritionist and can start improving the lives of others.  

This Bastyr University California nutrition program prepares future nutrition experts like you with the skills needed to:

Program Highlights

  • Whole foods, holistic health. The program is grounded in the whole-food philosophy and emphasizes eating a wide variety of foods in their most natural form. It focuses on nutrition for disease prevention, behavioral change, development of nutrition programs and health and wellness coaching. Students learn to draw connections between food, exercise science, functional nutrition and health psychology.  

  • Certification. Graduates will qualify as nutrition professionals under the current California Code. The program meets national standards for Health and Wellness Coaching.  

  • A focus on food. Grow your understanding of nutritional concepts and develop your culinary skills in a fully equipped, state-of-the art teaching kitchen. Education built on community. Highly qualified faculty, small class sizes and strong advising programs give you the focused attention you deserve. 

  • Additional learning opportunities. You’ll have access to elective classes in other programs, including herbal sciences, naturopathic medicine and health psychology

Curriculum

Prerequisites

  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • 3.0 GPA in prerequisite coursework
  • B grade or better in Human Physiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Nutrition
  • Entering students must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university
